Amman – January 26, 2009

Topping its fellow contestants in the category of Best Entertainment Website, 3alarasi.com was given the Gold Award at the third annual Jordan Web Awards.

An award ceremony was recently held at the Grand Hyatt Amman, organized by Mediascope and held under the patronage of the Jordanian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The ceremony was attended by key players in the Jordanian web design and development and electronic marketing arenas.

More than 150 websites participated in this year’s running, representing more than 30 design companies, freelance designers and site owners to compete for the Jordan Web Awards’ 27 total categories.

Receiving the award on behalf of 3alarasi.com’s team were Amer Abu Laila, the site’s founder and designer, the site’s caricaturist Omar Al Abdullat, and writer Rajai Qawwas.

3alarasi.com is considered the first Jordanian entertainment portal, designed specifically for the local youth community to be the primary medium for their interaction in hopes of delivering certain messages by the use of short videos and cartoons. The material displayed on the site attempts satirical reflections of Jordanian society in a manner that entertains as it informs, all of which is carefully selected and produced by the website’s team. The website also offers a number of unique services such as songs, images and games, in addition to various articles and a discussion forum.

“The receipt of this award is a great honor and an acknowledgement of the effort we put forth to make this project work,” commented Abu Laila. “It also places greater commitment on our part to multiply these efforts to guarantee the continuation of this success and retain the trust of our website’s visitors.”

Abu Laila emphasized the uncompromising dedication of the website’s team, all of whom work to keep 3alarasi.com in its best possible state. He also expressed the team’s commitment to continued growth and expansion on a regional scale, in addition to a number of pending strategic partnerships.

An initiative of Mediascope, the Jordan Web Awards was launched in 2006 with purpose of inspiring, archiving and rewarding quality web sites and their creators. The door for participation in the 2008 running was opened late last year, granting an opportunity for designers, developers, site owners and different governmental and non-governmental organizations to receive acknowledgement for their various web designs.
